My Best Friend

Full-Bred Gorgeous Pitbull

I am writing this memorial to let everyone know my story.

My dog was named Brandi and she was only two years old when she passed. Brandi was a full bred pit bull and she was gorgeous. You can see by her picture. She was my best friend. You see, I live by myself and she was who I woke up to in the morning and who I went to sleep with at night. She always knew when I was sad. I don’t know, I guess she sensed it. She was very good, she never hurt anyone and she was great with other dogs.

On June 12th I took Brandi to the vet to get her regular shots, along with heartworm medicine. When I was at the vet they told me of a new shot they have out now called Pro Heart 6. It is suppose to last six months. I thought “why not” it was cheaper then her regular pills, so I opted to go with the shot. All was well. I took her to the back room, she received all of her shots and she was fine. (Note: the ProHeart 6 was the last shot given to her).

I proceeded to go check out and pay for what she received when Brandi started to vomit. I told the assistant that she was vomiting and she quickly scooped her up and brought her back to the doctor.

I didn’t know what was wrong. I was not allowed back there for a while. I was very nervous and scared.

Finally the doctor called me back. As I walked back I saw Brandi on a table hooked up to an IV and she had an oxygen mask. She was having a terrible time breathing.

Brandi actually had tears in her eyes, she hurt very much. Her death was very slow.

Brandi got sick about 11:00am and passed at about 4:45pm. She was vomiting blood along with having bloody stool. I couldn’t handle it. I prayed for her, but it did not help. After all was said and done, I cried until I had nothing left. My doctor then proceeded the next day to open her up and send parts of her up to Antech’s (a lab in NY).

My doctor said nothing looked abnormal, no heartworms etc. The only thing abnormal was there was free flow of blood in her abdomen which occurred from a blood vessel burst, which likely came from the drug. I am awaiting results from Fort Dodge.

If I give one word of advice it's not to get this shot.
My dogs' life was cut short because of it.
This shot not only kills .... it is a slow agonizing death.
Please keep this in mind and let your best friend live a long life with you.

In May of 2002 you were brought to me,
Such joy and friendship for the future from what I see.
You took my life to a new level of happiness,
There is so much about you that I am going to miss.
On June 12th of 2004 the lord brought you back to him,
I guess he knew what a good dog you were to win.
Your life cut short by a drug supposed to do you well,
Sorry I didn’t know that the drug would bring you to ail.
I still hear you bark when someone comes to the door,
And sleeping against me pushing me over for room you wanted more.
I miss my best-friend knowing when I am happy or sad,
There is no other around that I would’ve rather had.
Brandi, I love you and I miss you each day,
I am sorry this happened, I don’t know what else to say.
For I am trying for you to let everyone know,
What damage this drug does and how it can cost you to woe.
As I bring this to an end all it is that I ask,
Is that you do your homework about this and don’t go in with a mask.

Thank you for your time.

Erin

"Tuffy"

February 1998 - September 27, 2004

Tuff came into our lives at the best possible time!

Hello! I am Tuffy's mom.

We adopted Tuff about 3 years ago. He had been badly abused and had heartworms. He only weighed about 100 lbs.

We saved him and he saved us. My husband & I were in motorcycle accident August of 2000. My husband lost his right. leg. Tuff helped my husband get the strenghth he needed, to go on.

Tuff came into our lives at the best possible time. With his weight gaining daily, he was an ongoing source of hope.

Tuffy married Snowy, a female we adopted. Together, they had 15 beautiful puppies.

We always had trouble getting Tuff to take pills, so when we heard of Proheart 6, it seemed like a blessing. Until 5 months after his shot. We came home from work around 7 am and found Tuff unable to breathe.

We rushed to the vet. Tuffy had developed a football sized tumor that had ruptured, in that short amount of time.

We love & miss you terribly baby. We will look for you when that day comes. Until then my love, watch over us.

Love, Mommy & Daddy
