Augie has always been an exceptional companion.

He often reminds me of how I should try to live, be happy, and to enjoy the little things in life.

Augie has a great passion for flyball. I never would have guessed a dog could be so competitive; he has a fire in his eye when he runs. He has been a top competitor and always gives it everything he has.

Augie and his aussie friend Luke have been inseparable from the day we brought Augie home. The three of us do everything together. Augie loves going to the park to chase balls or catch Frisbees almost as much as playing flyball.

It is Augie's spirit that gives him the energy to fight the Thrombocytopenia he contracted soon after his Proheart 6 injection.

(Editors Note: I learned about Augie, long before he received this six month injection, and then of his problems afterwards. Unfortunately, the Guardian can no longer speak of him, except to say he died August 7, 2003, "My life has not been the same since. I miss him every day and have cried buckets of tears. My heart is broken. I love you Stoey. I miss your big lion.")

"Nieka"

May 1996 - February 24, 2004

"Nieka" was a Wonderful Pet... She was my cherub!

I raised Nieka from the time she was 8 weeks old. She was an awesome dog who loved us unconditionally. I always told my kids she is my favorite person in the family. Nieka was always happy to see me and jumped all over me.

February 24, 2004... she had to be put down because of the proheart 6 shot. Although the vet and Fort Dodge told me it was because of Lymphoma, I don't believe it. Nieka was fine up until 3 days after she got the shot. She started to go blind, not eat and breath heavily. My poor baby went outside to die, thank God I was looking for her, or she would have died outside in the cold.

I will never give another pet a proheart 6 shot again, ever!

We are still upset about Nieka's passing but now have her ashes and she is back home with us.

"Popeye"

Adopted - April 14, 2004

My beloved came to me from God above.

Popeye was the best litlle man I could ever ask for. I adopted him or he actually adopted me. We went to visit someone and he jumped into my car and got in the back seat. And he never left my side from that day on. He filled my home with nothing but joy. Anywhere we went he also went. He had several trips out of town and never gave any trouble.

I wanted what was best for him as he gave his best to me. On April 2, 04 I took my baby to get his shots and that is where I began my loss. He was given his yearly shots and this included what the vet called a "good heart worm injection." (Proheart6)
Five days after recieving this he had a seizure. From then on it was several seizures, drooling, and becoming less active each day. The angels came and took him away from me and he was given back to God on April 13, 2004.

I will miss the part of my heart that Popeye took with him.

If there is anything I can do to prevent this shot from getting to any other member of anybody's family, I will try my best to help.
