UPDATES!

7/13/07

We had an appointment today, and the news was good. The pigmentation is looking better and also the cloudiness in her pupil. She will have to continue with the drops possibly for the rest of her life, but it's only one drop in each eye once a day, so that's not so bad. She doesn't have to go back for one year unless she has any problems. BTW, it's been just over one year since her surgery. So good news today!

1/19/07

Snick had a check up today. We've noticed some cloudiness in her eyes we were concerned about. Turns out she has pigmentary keratitis in her right cornea and corneal degeneration in both that's causing this. It's treatable by drops and no longer giving her the steroids. They will try this medication and when she returns in 6 weeks will determine if they should try another.

11/10: Snick had an appointment today and things went very well. They've decreased her medicine even more and she goes back in 2 months. She's down
to 26.5 pounds! They can even tell the difference in her personality.
They're very happy with her progress. Let's hope everything continues to go that way!

9/28: Snickers is doing very well. She's more active. She likes going outside all the time now and walking around and sniffing things out. She's getting into more trouble all the time.... she just LOVES toilet paper! but just to let you know that she's doing very well!

9/11 "She's getting more energetic all the time. She's playing hard and happy to be getting around. You would think that she's always been able to see. I'm so happy for her!"
New Pictures!

9/5 "Well, She's like a puppy all over again! Of course she's getting LOTS of
attention, but she is a very happy girl! She even likes her bubble gum flavored medicine. For the first time in a long time, she got to walk down Grandma's dock without fear of falling in! She's been a lot more playful, and chewing on bones and toys like she hasn't done in ages! It's so great to see her acting like normal even if she does get into trouble!"

9/1 From Mom: Good news! The collar is OFF!!!!! Her appointment went pretty well.

She has an infection in the back of her left eye which they were able to see by ultrasound. The treatment will just be baby aspirin. She's still on the steroid in the one eye once a day and the other medicine in both eyes once a day.
They gave her a new collar. Just in case. If she starts scratching at her eyes or having a hard time with them it has to go back on.
She goes back in 2 months.

New picture coming!

8/12 From Mom: "This weekend she was a lot more active. When
Smokey was playing catch she was interested and tried to get in on the fun.
Her eyes are looking great. You can still see where the ulcer was, but it is healing."

8/4 From Mom:"they said she's doing
great. They took the stitches out and they said the ulcer is healing very well. They said she's so well behaved now, it's like she's getting used to them messing with her eyes all the time. She doesn't have to go back for 4
WEEKS! Unless of course there is a problem. Bad news is the collar stays on
til then. They want to make sure it's completely healed"

New Picture

7/27 PM Glue came out, had to redo the procedure a little differently, hopefully back home tomorrow.

7/27 Meds helped, but did a procedure to close the ulcer with type of glue.

7/26 Snickers taken back because one eye looks bad. DX'd as a deep ulcer. Kept her to see if meds helped or have to do more surgery.

7/25 Post surgery complications! Watch for update.

7/21 They said she is doing well! But stuck with the collar for another two weeks.

7/20 Appointment tomorrow and hopefully the collar comes off!

New post-op picture

7/10 Check Up from 'Mom': "They are very impressed with Snick's progress. They did a
test where they put Grandma on one side of the room, took her to the other side and placed a stool between and she dodged the stool and went straight to Grandma! They said that the inflammation and the pressure in both eyes are down, and that the one retina that was slightly detached is re-attaching.
They don't want to see her back until late next week!"

7/8 Snickers is home! Both cataracts removed but due to tear in eye, only one lens replaced. Has slight inflammation and has to return on Monday

Post-op Picture

7/7 Doing Great! eating and playing and scheduled to come home TONIGHT!

7/6 - 4PM Waking up with no problem!

7/6 - 2 PM Surgery is over, not awake yet

7/5 Snickers is at hospital, another ultrasound shows retinas are fine.

Surgery is Scheduled! on 7/6 and hopefully 'Snickers' will be back on the 8th!

Watch for further updates and pictures!

1/19/07 vet vist! check updates!!

We are very happy to introduce : "Snickers"

Please, read her story below!

FACTS: "Snickers" is almost 3 (July 3, 2006) and needless to say a pug, but a "blind" one for the last two years. "Snickers" has needed cataract surgery since shortly after her second injection of the six month heartworm prevention. This poor little girl had been injected with TWO doses of heartworm prevention by the time she was ELEVEN months old.

Originally they said, if she had the surgery she would regain 90-95% of her sight. Due to the delay, we are hoping for 80%.

(Editors note): Yes, this product is off the market, but we still have dogs that will never be the same again. I've just heard of this one.

This one can never be the same again...... BUT, can be better with surgery.

The guardians were told if they didn't have the money, "at least she isn't in pain and appears to be doing well." But her life is so limited right now, she does nothing but lay on the couch! She is probably afraid in her dark world.

We need assistance!

Anyone willing to make a pledge or for more information please contact: Laurie Rentas or Laurryn Simpson
