Mr. Hank McKinnell:
Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer
Pfizer, Inc.
Dear Sir:
The recent interest by Pfizer Animal Health's Chief of the
adverse reaction department in talking with one of my colleagues
regarding the death of her dog (and Rimadyl is thought to
be the cause) is most encouraging. I understand she provided
a toll-free number to call for anyone who wants to talk about
what happened to their dog, or anyother questions they may
have regarding Rimadyl. This number is 1-800-366-5288. They
are there from 9-12 and 1-5 Monday through Friday.
I sincerely hope Pfizer is on the edge of doing more to educate
veterinarians and dog owners about the serious and at times
deadly adverse side effects of Rimadyl. You seized the opportunity
back in 2000 when the FDA CVM suggested you prepare a "Client
Information Sheet" for the veterinarians to hand out
when they prescribe Rimadyl. This was certainly a step in
the right direction, and I thank you for that.
It i my feeling that Pfizer, being the huge company it is,
could spend a lot more of its billions on insuring that drugs
you manufacture are safe - and not spending so much on advertising.
Of course, you are aware of that, as there has been much in
the media.
No amount of money can bring back the lives
of all the dogs who have died -
the dogs who had three things in common:
1. They were loved;
2. They were on Rimadyl;
3. They are dead!

Please realize that our companion animals are part of our
families - they give us unconditional love, and in return
we try to reciprocate.
Thank you for listening.
Sincerely,
Jean Townsend -
