"Silk "

Sleep well "God's 'Lil Angel".

On February 25, 2003, Silk was prescribed Deramaxx for a left rear leg injury. On February 27, 2003, after just two 100 mg tablets were given, Silk experienced a Deramaxx Adverse Reaction that would leave her life in jeopardy. Silk spent approximately six days and nights in a Specialist Hospital on IV fluids. A scope was performed and the results were that her entire stomach lining had been sloughed off. Silk had bled from every orifice in her body.

The feelings of guilt and anger are still very alive within me. The Vet that prescribed the Deramaxx never offered the Deramaxx patient information sheet, and when asked about the potential side effects, the Vet informed me that unlike Rimadyl, Deramaxx was safe. The Vet also informed me that Deramaxx was a COX-2 Inhibitor which would protect the GI tract, unlike Rimadyl. Novartis insisted that Silk's Deramaxx Adverse Reaction was "Rare", or "One in a Million".

Silk did recover ...... but not without major permanent damages resulting from the Deramaxx. The total cost of saving Silk's life, due to the Deramaxx/Deracoxib Adverse Reaction was approximately $4,500.00 (this did not include ultrasounds, X-Rays, etc.). Novartis was only willing to pay for diagnostic testing, and nothing more. In May of 2003, I took Silk to a local Orthopedic surgeon and Silk had to endure surgery to repair a left rear knee injury.

Deramaxx is considered a "Sulfa Drug", in which some breeds should not be exposed to. The Doberman Pinscher happens to be one of those breeds. The FDA has sent "Dear Doctor" letters to Novartis, concerning their objections to Animal Health US, Inc. for their Deramaxx false marketing tactics. Novartis Animal Health USA, may you rest in enternal hell for killing our beloved companions!!!

On June 27, 2004, My beloved Companion Silk passed away,
due to heart arrythmia's caused by her Deramaxx Adverse Reaction.
Sleep well "God's 'Lil Angel".

"Rosalie"

July 1995 - June 23, 2003

This is my beautiful girl.

She did so much more for me then I did for her.

Rosalie came into my life June 24, 2000

Rosalie survived 5 years in a puppymill, living outdoors.
She had double hip dysplasia, bi-lateral luxating patella, and severe emotional stress.
I believe she also suffered from post traumatic stress disorder.

It took her 3 months from the time she arrived to come out of the dining room corner.

I worked with her for 3 yrs and she still wasn't a "pet" by the public standards. Rosalie loved and trusted me.
She would follow me around. She would even allowed visitors to talk and pet her at times.

I was part of an investigation in which we were able to close a petshop that sold sick puppies.
I fostered a pup that had kennel cough. Rosie, though not directly exposed to the pup, developed pneumonia.

She spent Christmas week in ICU and after that, she was on steroids for months.
About 5 months after weaning her off, we decided to do knee surgery as her knee was permanently out of socket.

Looking back, I should have left well enough alone. Her body couldn't handle any more of these meds. The girls working at the vets when I carried her in ...... immediately said "do you think it is the Rimadyl?" They knew.

The part I keep kicking myself over, was that this was 'pre-surgery treatment' for luxating patella. Rosie didn't even need the pills and I was forcing them down her throat.

I now choose the holistic route with my dogs as well as my family whenever I can.
Above is my beautiful girl. She did so much more for me then I did for her.

Rose changed my whole life.
I am now an Animal Control Officer and I dedicate my life in changing the conditions these dogs are forced to live in.

Thank you for all you do to educate the public in these medical risks we have our dogs take everyday!

Sincerely,

Officer Kathy Hargis
