Reminder: FDA regulates drugs
and manufacturers but vets report to their State Vet
Board.
Things Happening in Pennsylvania!
From Demitry Herman: "Good news!
The meeting went great this morning! We're in! We're
in! I spoke before the board, explained our cause, and
they understood it and liked it! Our proposal was officially
accepted and goes before the full board for discussion.
The importance of all this work is the
ability to file an official complaint against the vets
that do not follow the newly written regulations. The
board admitted that as regulations are now, it is unlikely
they could reprimand a vet because of the lack of a
regulation in these two areas. In the case of the CIS
sheets...we would know ahead of time what side effects
to watch for and get help sooner...
September is the AAVSB (American Association
of Vet State Boards) executive board meeting in Kansas
City, MO. This is an important one for us. We are already
on the executive agenda. That's the hard part...first
base. We are in need of a group member in that area
to make a small presentation if possible. Any volunteers?
Don't be nervous! It's a snap! I'll e-mail to you what
I said and presented to them to help you plan a format.
We're moving ahead gang! Keep up the
good work...inform people...write your state vet boards
and include our proposal (let me know if you need a
copy). Request to be heard by them...and give it your
all! It works! Thanks everybody!"

RECALLS:
Proheart
& Others May '04,
Proheart®
6 Apr '04, Metacam®Mar
'04, Iverhart
+ ® Feb. '04, Iverhart
+ ® Oct. '03
Please note: As of the Enforcement
Report of July 14, 2004 the latest recall for Proheart®
6 has not yet been classified.
In the Wall Street Journal on 7/7/04
there was an article that states Consumer Reports did
a study and found "Many recalled products aren't
returned or repaired, the study found, because
consumers often aren't aware they own a faulty product.
Companies are required to make a "good faith"
effort to track down people who bought defective products,
but that standard is negotiated case by case."

Correction: Last month "As
we approach the 3 year anniversary for the FDA approval
of six month injection, it is interesting to note
that in pre-approval testing only 19 Beagles were
tested for 3 years. No tests were any longer then
3 years." True statement: 16 dogs
began the study, but only 4 received the injection
every 6 months for 3 years.

Got an old cell phone?
Want to help a dog? The Furry Friends Foundation is
collecting any old cell phones. If you have any old
phones (even old bag phones) you'd like to donate, you
can donate the phone at www.wirelessfundraiser.com
- selecting Furry Friends Foundation in Chicago as your
charity of choice. They will send you a pre-paid shipping
box. If the phone is not one they will pay Furry Friends
for, it will be donated to another charity. For example,
these phones are given to homeless shelters for battered
woman so they may dial 911. Either way you are doing
a good deed!! |
As of July 16, 2004
